During the construction of state highway 145 in 1984, a villa rustica dating from the Augustan period and extended during the late Republican period was brought to light. The excavated part shows a courtyard overlooked by a triclinium, an oecus and other rooms, all frescoed in the III Pompeian style, as well as several service rooms, one of which also had an oven. Among the most significant finds are a silver saucepan and several frescoes in the triclinium depicting mythological landscapes such as the boar hunt and Diana and Actaeon: the latter dates from 35-45 and depicts Diana naked as she plunges into the waters of a stream with Actaeon spying on her from above.

costruzione della strada statale 145, nel 1984, è stata riportata alla luce una
villa rustica risalente all'età augustea e ampliata durante l'età tardo
repubblicana. La parte scavata mostra un cortile sul quale si affacciano un
triclinium, un oecus e altri ambienti tutti affrescati in III stile pompeiano,
oltre a diversi ambienti di servizio, uno dei quali dotati anche di un forno.
Tra i reperti più significativi una casseruola in argento e diversi affreschi
del triclinio rappresentanti paesaggi mitologici come la caccia al cinghiale e
Diana e Atteone: quest'ultimo risale al 35-45 e raffigura Diana nuda intenta a
immergersi nelle acque di un ruscello e Atteone che la spia dall'alto.

Discovered in
1984 during the construction of the SS 145 to Sorrento, the excavated part
showed a central courtyard with brick columns, a triclinium (dining room), an
oecus (living room) and other frescoed rooms in III style.
The service
areas were on the south side of the courtyard and there was a vaulted brick
oven.
It can be
dated to the Augustan age, but with traces of a late Republican phase.
A silver
casserole was found there, a rare and luxurious object for a rustic villa.
Scoperta nel
1984 durante la costruzione della SS 145 per Sorrento, la parte scavata ha
mostrato un cortile centrale con colonne in laterizio, un triclinium (stanza da
pranzo), un oecus (soggiorno) e altri ambienti affrescati in III stile.
Gli ambienti
di servizio erano sul lato sud del cortile e vi si notava un forno a volta in
laterizio.
È databile
all’età augustea, ma con trace di una fase tardo repubblicana.
Vi si rinvenne
una casseruola argentata, oggetto raro e lussuoso per una villa rustica.

In the centre is an altar with the Graces and in front a grazing ox.
Actaeon is higher up but only the lower part of his body remains.
To the right is a reclining river god.
